Milwaukee is full of fun for everyone, but there a few places that are muddled with tourists. The difference between Milwaukee and the bigger cities is that we love our tourist spots too! Check out these eight places that are popular for visitors, but you'll find just as many Milwaukeeans that love to visit.
1. Milwaukee Art Museum
Arguably Milwaukee's most iconic building, is the Milwaukee Art Museum is a masterpiece inside and out. People travel from all over to visit the Calatrava and see the wings move, but you're sure to see a Milwaukeean or two as well!
Seriously... is this timelapse video of the of the wings unfurling captured by Dalibor Mrkic NOT the most elegant thing ever?
2. The "Bronze Fonz"
While wandering along the Riverwalk, you'll run into the statue of the Bronze Fonz! Downtown Milwaukee is home to the beloved "Fonz" from Happy Days (in bronze form, that is) which is a sight you can't afford to miss... and we not-so-secretly love taking photos with him.
3. The Riverwalk
A day on the Riverwalk is a great way for tourists to see the city, but it's a relaxing walk for all of us! There's a reason we go down this enchanting riverside stroll time and time again.
4. Summerfest
Milwaukee is home to the world's largest music festival, and though you'll constantly hear us moaning about traffic and tourists during the 11-day event, it's one we still look forward to every year.
5. Bradford Beach
This sandy attraction on Lake Michigan is the perfect place to take a dip in the water, build a sandcastle, or play some beach volleyball! There's also a bar on site for all of your end-of-day drinking needs, which is everything a Milwaukeean could ask for.
6. Milwaukee Public Market
The Public Market is the perfect spot to stop for lunch or some shopping. On the edge of the Third Ward and downtown, you'll encounter an equal blend of tourists and locals. There are several food vendors, a bakery, stands to shop at, and more! This is a Milwaukee must-visit, and many Milwaukeeans work here or get their lunch here too.
7. Seven Bridges
This hiking trail hiding in South Milwaukee is an excellent way to get away from the city for awhile and take a hike upon the lake. It's especially beautiful in the fall, and we take all the photo-ops along with the tourists.
8. Discovery World
This iconic building on the lakefront is actually a museum! Discovery World is a science and technology learning center for people of all ages. They have tons of interactive experiences for kids, but it's just as fun for adults. Discovery World also features an aquarium and offers sail rides on their Tall Ship. It's the perfect spot to spend an afternoon, and it's pretty nice to look at, too!
Are you a Milwaukeean that secretly loves these tourist spots? What would you add to the list? Let us know in the comments!
