Whether you're looking to take a trip or to take in the scenic views of West Virginia, there are several train rides in West Virginia where you can do either. In no particular order, here are 8 tourist or travel train options in the Mountain State worth checking out.
1. New River Train Excursions
Formerly known as New River Train Excursions, the train now operates only in the fall as the Autumn Colors Express. You can check out this article and read all about one of the most beloved train rides in West Virginia.
2. Cass Scenic Railroad
This historic railroad was built in 1901 to haul timber to the mill in Cass. Now it's a scenic railroad that takes passengers to the old logging camp of Whittaker Station and to Bald Knob, the third highest point in West Virginia. 3. Potomac Eagle Scenic Railroad in Romney
This historic rail tourist attraction travels the South Branch Valley of the Potomac River. As the name suggests, bald eagles are often spotted from the trains. For more information and to purchase tickets, be sure to visit the Potomac Eagle Scenic Railroad website.
4. New Tygart Flyer

5. The Durbin Rocket
This train was built in 1910 and is powered by a rare steam locomotive, Old #3. This engine, with its combination of open and closed cars, is perfect for families with smaller children. 6. The Cheat Mountain Salamander

7. Amtrak
