West Virginia has some pretty small towns, but did you know they were THIS small? The following towns have fewer than 200 people, according to data from the 2010 census.
Kimball, in McDowell County, had 194 people during the last census. It is the site of the first memorial honoring the African-American veterans of World War II. It is also the home of Tracy Gravely, a retired Canadian Football League linebacker, and Barney Brown, who pitched in the Negro league from 1931 to 1949.
This town in Tyler County had 132 people during the 2010 census. It is the setting of the children’s book "Shiloh." The Heirloom tomato was said to be discovered near Friendly in 1884. (No word on exactly how friendly Friendly is. Does anyone know?)
Harman's population was 143 at the 2010 census. Harman is located in Randolph County in the Potomac Highlands of West Virginia. The town was home to Stoney Cooper, a country musician and Grand Olde Opry member born in 1918.
The town of Pax, in Fayette County, had 167 people during the last census. The town is 193 acres. Walter Craddock, who was a pitcher for the Kansas City Athletics and died in 1980, was born there.
Thurmond, West Virginia is a near ghost town, with a population of 5 people during the 2010 census. The Fayette County town was once thriving town with businesses and facilities for the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway. It was also the place where Matewan, a 1987 movie, was filmed. Today, much of the town belongs to the National Park Service
This tiny town along the Gauley River in Webster County had 169 people at the last census. The town is the site of the Black Chapel Cemetery, one of the oldest cemeteries in the state, according to the town’s website. It has grave stones predating 1863, when West Virginia became a state.
The population of Bruceton Mills was 85 at the 2010 census. That included 42 households, and 22 families. This Preston County town was named for George Bruce, who claimed to be a descendent of Robert the Bruce, King of Scotland.

Why We Love It: It's taken several trips for me to figure out my perfect "weekender bag that's TSA approved," but I've found my perfect carry on with the TOBIQ Colorado 30L.
