The air is getting colder in West Virginia. The radio stations are starting to play "Jingle Bells," and you can't help but wonder if maybe you could take your own sleigh ride in our great mountain state. The answer is yes! Check out these horse-drawn carriage and sleigh rides to get into the spirit of the holidays.
1. South Charleston Christmas Parade
There will be free horse and carriage rides available from Rocky Point Farm at the South Charleston Christmas Parade on Saturday, December 10th. You can also see Santa arrive by helicopter!
2. Appalachian Coal Town Christmas
Beckley's Exhibition Coal Mine has a special Christmas celebration on two consecutive weekends this year, November 29 – 30 and December 6 and 7. There will be special coal mine tours, visits from Santa, crafts for children, and more. The events are from 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm. The cost is $10 per adult and $5 per child, and covers all activities, including the carriage rides.
3. Ripley Christmas Parade
There will be horse and carriage rides available from Rocky Point Farm at the Ripley Christmas Parade on Saturday, December 3rd.
4. Christmas in Shepherdstown
Carriage rides will be available from 12-4 starting Saturday, November 26, and continuing each Saturday through Christmas. More information here.
5. The 46th annual Harpers Ferry Olde Tyme Christmas
Harpers Ferry gets back to history with this old-fashioned celebration. Carriage tours are available on each weekend from December 2 through December 11. Get free tickets at Soldier's Rest on Potomac Street.
6. Carriage/Sleigh Rides at the Greenbrier
There are regular carriage rides available at the Greenbrier resort, and sleigh rides available when there's snow. For more information, click here.
