West Virginia has some of the best fall foliage in the country, and we're lucky to have so many stunning places to view it around the state. You can see some of the best views of West Virginia in the fall this year on this epic journey from New River Train Excursions, based in Huntington.
Editor's note: The New River Train Excursions are now sadly discontinued. We will miss the lovely beauty through the winding mountains.
Each October, New River Train Excursions hosts a series of journeys across West Virginia.
The train travels from Huntington, through the New River Gorge, and down to the quiet little town of Hinton.
The railroad runs along the Kanawha and New Rivers for the perfect fall scenery. Meals are served on the train while guests enjoy the view.
For an extra special experience, you can book a ride on one of the Dome cars.
The larger, curved windows on the upper floor of these train cars give a spectacular view of the colorful foliage.
Each of the train cars on the New River Train Excursions are privately owned, and there's a different assortment of cars each journey.
You never know exactly what your ride will look like until you get there!
At the end of the line in Hinton, the train stops for about three hours for guests to enjoy the Railroad Days festival.
This is a train lover's dream!
After visiting the festival, you'll ride back to Huntington with memories to last a lifetime.
The New River Train Excursions trips this year will take place October 21, 22, 28, & 29, 2017
The dome trains are currently sold out for this fall, but you can still book your seat on a regular train car to see the foliage this year, or start planning your excursion for next year! Visit their website to book tickets.
