You don't need to be a high-adventure outdoor enthusiast to fall hopelessly in love with the tiny town of Davis, West Virginia (population, approximately 650). The main street is filled with charming restaurants, enchanting B&Bs, and shops to wile away the late afternoon.

Blackwater Falls State Park - Davis
One of the most visited state parks in the Mountain State is also undeniably one of the most beautiful, and it's located right here in Davis. You can easily spend an entire weekend exploring this park, starting with the many trails — there are 20 different hikes to choose from. The park also has a lodge, cabins, campground and a restaurant.
Little Canaan Wildlife Management Area - Davis
See more of the Blackwater River from within this relatively new WMA maintained by the DNR. Three miles of the river cut through the wetlands in the Canaan Valley and provide an ideal place for fishing and just reconnecting with nature.
Wintertime activities
Davis is near to three ski areas: Canaan Valley, Timberline, and Whitegrass. All are approximately nine miles away, making it easy to call Davis your home base in the winter, too.
Dolly Sods Wilderness Area - 20 miles south of Davis
Even if you aren't an avid hiker, you can still enjoy the spoils of the highest plateau east of the Mississippi. The gorgeous views and unusual plant life will make the drive up to (and even through) Dolly Sods worth the effort. You'll marvel at colors you never imagined possible in nature, plus one-sided trees that resemble flags blowing in the wind. After exploring the awesome natural wonders in and near Davis, head back to home base to explore this quaint little town.
