Ask 100 Washingtonians for their favorite local pizza spot and you're likely to get 100 different answers. Unlike places like New York and Chicago, the Pacific Northwest doesn't have its own pizza style—and that's actually a good thing, because there's a huge variety in the types of pies you'll find here.
This pizza journey is not meant to be completed in a single weekend, or even a single road trip. That would be disastrous on the wallet and waistline. It's also not meant to be a list of all the delicious pizza joints here in Washington—there are far too many to list. But as you travel around the state this year, stop and try each place featured here. When you finish your pilgrimage, you'll have sampled a good selection of tasty local pizza.
1. The Flying Goat (Spokane)
Since its 2010 opening, The Flying Goat has been a beloved local favorite. Known for its tasty artisan pies and craft beer, it's easy to see why this place is so loved.
2. Versalia Pizza (Spokane)
Versalia Pizza has a Libery Lake location, but the location at Kendall Yards has a patio with incredible views. But nothing tops the wood-fired pizza, which you can order whole or by the slice.
3. Chico's Pizza Parlor (Moses Lake)
Several years ago, the Moses Lake community mourned when Chico's—the city's oldest family-owned pizzeria—was lost to a fire. Luckily, the restaurant was rebuilt, and those classic extra-cheesy pizzas are bringing joy to all who try them.
4. Local Myth Pizza (Chelan)
It makes sense that a pizzeria would do well in Chelan. After a long day of boating, hiking, wine tasting, or any of the other adventures the area is known for, savoring a few slices of pizza may be all you have the energy for. But Local Myth Pizza is about so much more than convenience. The hand-rolled, hand-crafted artisan pizzas are out of this world.
5. Hoptown Wood-Fired Pizza (Union Gap)
Located just outside of Yakima, Hoptown Pizza's opening was the best thing to happen to Yakima wine country since... well, the wine. This team has absolutely perfected the art of the wood-fired pizza.
6. The Old School Pizzeria (Olympia)
Olympia's Old School Pizzeria is exactly what it sounds like. This no-frills spot serves New York style pizza by the slice or by the pie, and it's absolutely addictive.
7. Salamone's Pizza (Tacoma)
Tacoma has plenty of places to grab a good slice. But Salamone's Pizza just might beat them all out when it comes to flavor. The owner grew up in Brooklyn, so you can expect authentic New York style pizza when you're here.
8. Windy City Pie (Seattle)
Chicago style pizza is very unique, and it isn't easy to find real Chicago style pizza in the PNW. But Windy City Pie gets it right, offering Chicago-style pizza that embraces new ingredients and techniques while respecting its traditions. Come hungry, because you're going to leave feeling stuffed.
9. Sunny Hill (Seattle)
Have you ever heard of Detroit-style pizza? That's what you'll find at Sunny Hill, a fairly new eatery in Ballard's Sunset Hill neighborhood. When you go for the thick, Detroit-style square slices or a 12-inch whole pie, you won't be disappointed.
10. Railroad Pub and Pizza (Burlington)
This pub serves some seriously perfect pizzas. The dough, which is aged for 24 hours, is made with malt from Skagit Valley Malting. The freshly made pizzas pair perfectly with their local beer.
11. Annie's Pizza Station (Concrete)
Concrete is a long drive for most Washingtonians, but it's worth it for Annie's Pizza Station alone. The pizzas are baked in traditional stone-lined deck ovens, resulting in a unique taste and texture you'll love. There's a reason this place is so popular and people drive well out of their way to get it.
There are so many fantastic pizza options in Washington. Shout-out your favorites so we can show them some love.
