While the big cities in our state do have alluring attractions, you can also locate some of the most fascinating features in and around our smaller communities. Here are 10 places in Washington where the population may be tiny, but the opportunities are endless:
1. Leavenworth
About 2,000 residents live in this charming Bavarian village near the Cascade Mountains that's notorious for its year-round attractions, as well as seasonal events like Oktoberfest and the Autumn Leaf Festival.
2. George
Although this teeny town is home to only 500+ residents year round, it becomes packed rather quickly during events like the Sasquatch Music Festival because visitors come from all over to rock out at the incredibly scenic Gorge Amphitheater.
3. Ashford
This teeny place of only 200+ is located just a few miles west of the main entrance to Mount Rainier National Park, where there is infinite Northwest beauty to explore.
4. Forks
Besides the locations in this rainy town regarding the Twilight series, this small area of 3,600+ people is located in the heart of the Olympic Peninsula and has easy access to world class attractions like the Olympic National Park and Rialto Beach.
5. Friday Harbor
This well-known area on San Juan Island has a population of only about 2,200+. Nevertheless, you can discover many fabulous restaurants, events, and shops!
6. Snoqualmie
Although this town may only have 12,000+ people when it comes to the census, there are plenty of visitors during the fall & winter who stop by to enjoy the snowboarding and skiing opportunities at Snoqualmie Pass. Not to mention the infamous and photogenic Snoqualmie Falls!
7. Coulee City
Only about 560+ Washingtonians live in this small town that's only a few minutes away from the breathtaking Dry Falls landscape.
8. Long Beach
Home to the "World's Largest Frying Pan", this kitchenware in the town of 1,300+ residents is surprisingly not actually the biggest in the entire world. The quirky landmark is a year-long reminder of the town's annual Razor Clam Festival!
9. Prosser
Along the Yakima River, this lovely small town of about 5,700 people hosts unforgettable events such as the Great Prosser Balloon Rally!
10. Ocean Shores
Many come to visit this beach town with fresh seaside air everywhere you go. Although the name may be familiar to a lot of people, it's only home to about 5,600+ and the beauty never ceases to amaze.
