After a seemingly endless winter, it feels wonderful to welcome spring in Washington. As our state begins to defrost, bloom, and warm up ever so slightly, it's a great time to plan a few local getaways to celebrate the new season. Sneak away to a few of the following spots before summer if you can ― they're especially beautiful during this favorite season of the year.
1. Leavenworth
Our Alpine village hosts events and festivals in every season, and spring is no exception. When you come to visit, plan to stay for a while. One day in Leavenworth may simply not be enough.
2. The Skagit Valley Tulip Festival
Every April, the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival takes over the Mount Vernon and LaConner areas. While the festival gets crowded on the weekends, it's well worth going to see the beautiful tulips in bloom.
3. The Yakima Valley
There is nothing better than spring in Yakima Valley. During this fabulous time of year in Washington, you will spot the cherry trees in bloom and the outdoor farmers' markets begin to appear. To see more of this area in the spring, consider taking a drive along the Yakima River Canyon Scenic Byway.
4. Walla Walla
We've previously mentioned that Walla Walla is a perfect day trip destination. Unsurprisingly, it's perfect for a visit in the spring. It's not only beautiful, but many local wineries have their Spring Release weekends as well.
5. San Juan Island
Island getaway, anyone? There is so much to do from whale watching to sailing to just relaxing in the charming towns. You'll never regret a visit to this delightful Washington getaway destination.
6. Second Beach
Second Beach is one of a series of small beaches in Olympic National Park. If you go at the right time (meaning, well, now), you can avoid the summer crowds and enjoy the refreshing 4-mile hike to the ocean in peace.
7. Carson Hot Springs Resort, 372 St Martin's Springs Rd.
How does soaking off the last of the winter's chill in a hot jetted mineral spring sound? We thought so. Believe us, you will have a hard time leaving Carson Hot Springs Resort.
8. Whidbey Island
When was the last time you visited Whidbey? From the charming small town amenities of Langley to Deception Pass State Park, there's plenty to discover. To see it all, you may want to consider this Washington road trip.
9. Cle Elum
Located in the beautiful mountains of Central Washington, Cle Elum makes a perfect spring getaway, especially if you explore the vintage mining town of Roslyn. This a charming destination if you want to spend time outdoors — just come prepared with the right gear — and have an incredible adventure!
