Spring is a wonderful time to make a getaway, and you can never go wrong with a trip out to Lake Chelan. It's the largest natural lake in our state by any measure, and has been repeatedly named as one of the top travel destinations in the country. Huffington Post even mentioned Chelan as one of America's 10 Greatest Lake Towns - and we really couldn't agree with them more. If you could use a break from life for a couple of days, here's a short, two-day itinerary to inspire your next trip.
Check in at the Campbell Resort.
Campbell Resort is one of the most popular options for lodging by the lake. It sits on the very southern tip of the water, offering cozy, top-tier accommodations with waterfront rooms, a spa, an award-winning restaurant, and extravagant spaces for weddings.
It's only a 5-minute walk to get to downtown, and a short 10-15 minute drive over to Lake Chelan State Park. Depending on when you check in during the evening, you can find plenty of places to explore around the resort on the first night, without needing to travel far.
Day One:Take the Lady of the Lake Tour.
Lady of the Lake has been providing scenic boat rides across the water for over 100 years. It's a relaxing way to spend a sunny afternoon, and has even been recommended by National Geographic.
And explore Stehekin Valley.
Only accessible by boat (like Lady of the Lake), Stehekin Valley is almost something out of a Norwegian fairy tale. You'll be able to find hiking trails everywhere, surrounded by world-class scenery. Visit the Stehekin Valley Ranch and you can even go for rides on Norwegian Fjord horses from the ranch to Coon Lake.
Get a taste of the local wine.
The Lake Chelan valley has the perfect climate and mineral-rich soil to grow lush vineyards. You'll be able to choose from over two dozen top-line wineries, all located near the southern end of the lake.
With so many local options, you can get a taste of all kinds of new blends - and maybe even pick up a bottle (or a few) to take home with you. Pictured are a few samples from Karma Vineyards.
For dinner: Visit Tsillan Cellars & Sorrento's Restaurant.
After an afternoon of tasting wines, you're bound to get hungry. For some delectable Italian food, accompanied by lakeside views and more excellent wine, check out Sorrento's at Tsillan Cellars.
Their menu features a wide range of appetizing combinations. Whatever you end up choosing, start it off with some of their warm Spinach & Artichoke Dip - you can even add crab.
The next day:Go for a round of golf at Bear Mountain Ranch Golf Resort.
Show off your pro-golfing skills and challenge friends to a round on this upscale 18-hole course. They offer 5 tee boxes per hole, with a course that accommodates golfers of all experience levels. Situated on the natural plateaus beside the lake, the resort features panoramic views the whole time.
Visit a top-rated water park.
Slidewaters is located on Chelan Butte, overlooking the beautiful lake. The family-fun destination has even been rated as one of the best water parks in the country by travelers on TripAdvisor. With one general admission ticket, you'll have access to their 15 unique attractions and 12 slide complexes.
Relax by the water.
You can't make a trip to Lake Chelan without taking some time to really stop and admire the glacier-fed lake itself. It offers some of the finest kayaking, boating, parasailing and canoeing in the whole state. Even if you aren't planning on heading out on the water, you can always just go for a relaxing walk out on the pier.
And wrap up your final evening in town with the warm sun setting over the water.
It's like experiencing Heaven on Earth, and it will be next to impossible trying to pack up and leave.
