Dayton is a tiny town located about 31 miles northeast of Walla Walla. With a population of about 2,600 and a major world-renowned wine destination located so close, it's safe to say this place doesn't get much publicity. But drive the extra stretch and check out this charming, historic downtown area. That's where you'll discover The Weinhard Hotel -- and it will be love at first sight.
The Weinhard Hotel is located on Main Street, where it sits in a beautiful building from the 1890s.
This Victorian-era treasure has been fully renovated, and it's absolutely magnificent.
Dayton is actually quite rich in history.
It was an original stop on the Lewis and Clark trail, and there are quite a few buildings in town that date back to the 1800s.
Enjoy a drink or a bite to eat at Jacob's Public House, the on-site eatery that serves small plates, street tacos, and sweet treats.
The wine and cocktails here are also exceptional. Go ahead and indulge -- your room is only a set of stairs away.
Each of the 15 guest suites is furnished with collection of Victorian-American antiques, some of which date back to the 1830s.
No two rooms are exactly alike, so you might have to stay more than once to get the full experience (bummer).
While you're enjoying your stay, make sure to check out the lovely rooftop garden.
Here, plants bloom from May - October, the views are fantastic, and you can play a game or relax on the kissing bench.
The hotel is named after Jacob Weinhard, who came to Dayton in 1880 after an apprenticeship with his uncle, Henry Weinhard at the Weinhard Brewery in Portland.
Jacob constructed the building in 1890 as a home for the Lodge Hall & Saloon. The building changed hands (and names) several times before becoming the Weinhard Hotel in 1994.
