Affectionally known as “little Norway,” Poulsbo is now of the most picturesque little towns in northern Washington, and it’s an ideal destination for a day trip.
Historically inhabited by the Suquamish people, Poulsbo was founded in the 1880s by Norwegian immigrant Jørgen Eliason, who was drawn to the area for its rich resources and a similar landscape to his Norwegian roots.
The town even spoke Norwegian as its primary language all the way up until World War II! Today, Poulsbo fully embraces its Scandinavian roots with several annual events celebrating its Norwegian heritage, so be sure to check the events calendar to see what's on the horizon before your visit.
Exploring this family-friendly town is easy, and the town is easily navigable on foot.
Front Street is the town's main drag and that's where you find all the best shops and restaurants.
Poulsbo is breathtaking year-round, but we must admit that it really takes on a special form during the wintertime.

There are plenty of museums, art galleries, and attractions to keep you entertained for the entire day.
Be sure to check out the Sea Discovery Center where you can learn all about the maritime history of this area as well as the local wildlife and sea life that call the area home.
