Located about 20 miles south of Olympia, Bucoda is a tiny town of about 670 people. For most of the year, it's quiet, calm, and rather mundane...but when Halloween comes around, it really comes to life. If you're searching for a "Halloween town near me," you're in luck! In October, Bucoda transforms into "Boocoda," a Halloween town in Washington state you won't want to miss out on.
Bucoda is known as The World's Tiniest Town with the Biggest Halloween Spirit.
Settled in 1856 by Aaron Webster, Bucoda was originally known as Seatco from the Coastal Salish word "Tsi-at-co," meaning "devil" or "ghost place." It was also the site of Washington Territory’s first penitentiary, so its obsession for all things spooky is understandable.
From October 1 through October 31, this entire town transforms into a Halloween lover's paradise.
Boocoda has been a local tradition for years.
One of the highlights of Boocoda is the Hearse Procession and Viewing.
This event kicks things off at the beginning of the month, and it's similar to a parade -- just a bit more sinister.
The family-friendly Pine Box Derby is next, also taking place in early October.
There are events happening every weekend as well as daily (yes, daily!) trick-or-treating at Joe's Place.
Another exciting part of the Boocoda fun is the Vendors Fair.
The craft fair takes place every Saturday, selling all kinds of local goodness.
Boocoda has exciting events happening all month long, like the Haunted House, Zombie Parade, and group Thriller Dance closer to Halloween.
If you're looking for a place to celebrate Halloween, this is it.
There are so many ways to celebrate Halloween in Washington State, including pumpkin patches, haunted houses, and more. But nothing compares to an entire town transforming itself into a Halloween town. For a complete schedule, visit the official site of Boocoda.
