Have you ever visited Washington's witchiest town? For most Washingtonians, visiting Coupeville requires a long drive and a breathtaking ferry ride (or a scenic bridge). The good news is, it's totally worth it in any season — especially autumn.
Washington has plenty of places that are fantastic to visit during Halloween season. We even have a Halloween town, BOO-coda. But if you can only enjoy one day trip or weekend getaway in October, we hope you'll consider Coupeville.
The historic seaport town of Coupeville sits nestled on the northern part of Whidbey Island.
The town is part of Ebey's Landing National Historical Reserve, which was created in 1978 as the original Historical Reserve in the U.S.
This is one of our state's oldest towns, but it truly gained fame when it was used as the setting for the 1998 film Practical Magic.
The movie's small town scenes were filmed in Coupeville, and it's been known as Washington's witchiest town ever since. The movie is considered a classic fall flick.
Coupeville doesn't shy away from its Practical Magic Fame.
In fact, they embrace it in the best way.
Praktical Magik, an upscale witchy boutique, opened earlier this year.
Here, you'll find potions and lotions in the form of handcrafted soaps, candles, custom scents, and more.
And of course, there's always The Haunting of Coupeville, a spooky, family-friendly event that lasts all month long.
Every October, the community comes together to make Coupeville look extra eerie.
Local businesses decorate, the restaurants offer seasonal specials, and the pumpkin patch opens up each weekend.
This year's Scarecrow Trail theme is Hocus Pocus, which is perfectly fitting (and timely).
Coupeville is always charming, but visiting in October is especially inviting.
If you refer to fall as "Halloween season," this is definitely the place for you.
Do you have any Halloween traditions? The Haunting of Coupeville makes a great one!
