We all love a good road trip, and this route may be the one of the best in the state. What makes this path so special? Whether you take the entire trip in order or do bits a little at a time, these are definitely stops you'll want to add to your summer bucket list. Route overview
Travel up, over and down the state of Vermont visiting some of the wonderful sites along the Cheese Trail.
1. Grafton Cheese Company, Brattleboro
You can watch the specialty cheeses being made through a special viewing area. Interesting, informative and tasty! # 20 on the Cheese Trail Map.
2. Brattleboro Museum & Art Center, Brattleboro
This is simply a gem - building, exhibits, and view are an easy must-see!
3. Creamery Covered Bridge, Brattleboro
Take a step back in time if you are in the area and enjoy this beautiful covered bridge.
4. Vermont Shepherd, Putney
A very simple and wonderful place. It's a perfect spot to pick up cheese that is amazing on the honor system. Samples are readily available in the fridge. Don't miss it! # 44 on the Cheese Trail Map.
5. Grafton Village Cheese Co., Grafton
Samples of cheeses and jams abound here! Who doesn't love an aged 5 year cheddar? #17 on the Cheese Trail Map.
6. Jud Hartmann Gallery, Grafton
The work of Jud Hartmann is outstanding and if you're lucky you'll get to meet the artist. The Native American statues are very life-like and when surrounded by them, the experience is positively immersive.
7. West River Creamery, Londonderry
West River Creamery is a small cheese making facility located in Londonderry. They make several different types of farmstead cheese and other speciality products that you will absolutely LOVE. # 46 on the Cheese Trail Map.
8. TimberQuest, Londonderry
This tree-top adventure course is fun for the entire family. Challenges include rope bridges, ladders, cargo nets, and lots of zip lines. There is even a course for the younger children. A good way to work off some of those cheese samples!
9. Woodcock Farm Cheese Company, Weston
Located in the Green Mountains of Weston, this small family farm is devoted to creating artisan cheeses by hand from both their own farmstead sheep's milk and local cow's milk. # 48 on the Cheese Trail Map.
10. Plymouth Artisan Cheese, Plymouth
This is a small, cute creamery near the Coolidge historical site. When you step inside you're greeted by the sight of huge cheese vats as cheese is being made. It's very cool, and you get to see antique cheese making equipment on display. #30 on the Cheese Trail Map.
11. Vermont Country Store, Weston
Fun for the whole family, you'll find that many of the products they sell are hard to find oddities. There are samples everywhere to play with, eat, and experience, and in the summer the outdoors are packed with swings and lawn games. It's like stepping back in time.
12. President Calvin Coolidge State Historic Site, Plymouth
This historic site has a gorgeous visitor center, lots of displays, tours of the homestead, stunning grounds, and Plymouth Cheese! Learn more about President Calvin Coolidge and where he was both raised and sworn into office.
13. Billings Farm & Museum, Woodstock
You'll find more than just cheese here! The Billings Farm is a great place to go, especially if you are not familiar with dairy farming. The staff make it a top notch place to go to learn about the farming process, as well as a bit about late 19th century history in the house tour and the museum. #2 on the Cheese Trail Map.
14. Downtown Woodstock
What's not to love about strolling along in a quaint downtown? Don't miss the town crier board in the town center to see what's happening!
15. Cabot Creamery Cooperative
Mild and aged and sharp - OH MY! This store has over 30 samples of cheese, cheese spread, dips, crackers, syrup, popcorn, etc. just sitting out for the eating, and it's hard not to walk away without a newly discovered favorite. # 9 on the Cheese Trail Map.
16. Quechee Gorge, Quechee
Take a stretch and check out the spectacular Quechee Gorge. It's absolutely GORGEous!
17. Blythedale Farm, Corinth
If you're ready to be blown away by the most amazing brie in your life, then this is a must. Just, wow. #4 on the Cheese Trail Map.
18. Neighborly Farms, Randolph Rd, Randolph
Neighborly is an interesting cheese farm within a 10 minute drive off of I-89. The farm is totally organic, they grow their own hay and have a natural source of water, so you can feel good about supporting a sustainable operation. # 27 on the Cheese Trail Map.
19. Cabot Creamery Cooperative, Cabot
Whether you're feeling hot, hot, hot (or not) the cheddar at Cabot will have you covered with a plentiful - and delicious - selection. # 9 on the Cheese Trail Map.
20. Shelburne Farms
This is much more than a scenic opportunity. Learn, taste and enjoy while visiting! # 34 on the Cheese Trail Map.
21. Shelburne Museum, Shelburne
If you're visiting Vermont and want to learn a bit about local history, this is a place you really should visit. If you're from Vermont, it's also a must-visit as there are few places that will educate you about your state's history as well as the Shelburne Museum.
22. Vermont Teddy Bear, Shelburne
This is a fabulous tour for both the young and the young at heart. Stuff your own bear for a unique experience or buy an already made bear as a souvenir. Or simply, enjoy the enjoy the tour and leave with great memories.
23. Champlain Valley Creamery, Middlebury
Artisan cheeses made with organic milk from a single farm, handcrafted by cheesemaker Carleton Yoder in Vermont since 2003. # 10 on the Cheese Trail Map.
24. UVM Morgan Horse Farm, Middlebury
The UVM Morgan Horse Farm is a gorgeous piece of horse heaven. Beautiful horses and scenery combined with learning experiences make a great family or individual outing for anyone who enjoys horses.
25. Henry Sheldon Museum of Vermont History, Middlebury
If you'd like to wander through a condensed version of Vermont history, this is the place. It's a very manageable size, and sometimes they have a guest artist or speaker on site to offer a short lecture.
26. Bridport Creamery, Bridport
You'll find these artisanal cheeses used in some of the best restaurants in Vermont. Absolutely delicious! # 8 on the Cheese Trail Map.
27. John Strong Mansion Museum, West Addison
Check out this historic home that is still used as the Daughters of the American Revolution headquarters.
28. Twig Farm, Cornwall
Twig Farm is a small goat dairy and cheese making farm which produces award-winning aged raw milk goat cheeses. All of their cheeses are made by hand and patiently aged in an aging cellar. # 41 on the Cheese Trail Map.
29. Branbury State Park, Salisbury
Take a break and stretch your legs in the beautiful Branbury State Park. Take a hike or cool off at the sandy beach.
30. Blue Ledge Farm, Salisbury
This award winning, family owned and run, goat dairy and cheese making farm creates high quality products. It is built on the cornerstones of respect for consumers, land and animals as well as the local community. # 3 on the Cheese Trail Map.
31. Consider Bardwell Farms, West Pawlet
Consider Bardwell Farms is a dairy farm in West Pawlet which makes award-winning cheese with raw milk from grass-fed and pasture-raised cows and goats. # 12 on the Cheese Trail Map.
32. Hildene Farm Signature Cheese, Manchester
You'll go crazy for the cheese made at Hildene, not to mention the beautiful location! # 18 on the Cheese Trail Map.
33. Hildene, The Lincoln Family Home, Manchester
Built by Robert Lincoln, Abraham Lincoln’s son, this 412-acre historic home has stunning gardens, a dairy farm, a Pullman car, many trails and more.
34. Lye Brook Falls, Manchester
Everyone loves a waterfall, and Lye Brook Falls is a wondrous place. Well worth a visit!
