Living in Vermont isn't for the weak or weary. We're tough, resourceful and kind hearted, but there are a few things that everyone, and we mean everyone, will need to survive. These things go beyond the basics of food, water and shelter - but they are just as important if you want to survive here.
1. Good friends.
Everyone needs friends to laugh with... or maybe help pull your car out of a ditch.
2. A level of comfort with always being a little dirty.
Whether you're fixing something or playing in the garden, you never come home really clean.
3. A love of bacon.
Because bacon really does make everything better.
4. An assortment of outdoor exercise equipment.
Vermonters can't stay still for long. Being active keeps everyone happy and healthy.
5. Tolerance for people talking about the weather.
Weather speculations are discussed all day, every day. If you can't handle that - move.
6. Warm clothes.
And lots of them!
7. Netflix.
A netflix binge is key when you're snowed in... If you don't lose power, that is.
8. A false sense of love for the winter when it’s below zero.
Because you really wish you were playing shuffleboard at Del Boca Vista with the Seinfelds.
9. Lotion and lip balm.
Your skin can really dry out during the long winters.
10. Books.
Whether enjoying some light reading in front of a fire or trying a new recipe from an old cookbook, Vermonters always have books handy.
11. Hot chocolate supplies.
Have a variety of additions to create any kind of hot treat: marshmallows, whipped cream and Bailey's are always excellent choices.
12. A remote car starter.
Winter mornings will never be the same...

But don't be surprised if you get a cold anyway. In which case, be sure to stock up on....
14. Tissues.
