Some people call Vermont's sparsely populated towns "the boonies," but we all know that these little towns in Vermont are filled with remarkable people and fantastic scenery. When you combine the people with the surroundings, it just might make you want to pack your bags and become a part of these tight knit communities. Here are some small towns in rural Vermont that make us long to move there.
1. Ripton
Perhaps the best part about Vermont is the people who live here. The following is a conversation between the photographer and the shopkeeper at the Ripton General Store back in 1990: US: Are there any restrooms near here?
STOREKEEPER: Nope.
US: You don't have any yourself?
STOREKEEPER: Only for paying customers.
US: OK. We'll have three coffees.
STOREKEEPER: If you're only buying them so you can use the restrooms I'm not selling you any.
2. Andover
The Vermont country roads here meander through the town, passing babbling brooks and boasting gorgeous views. Despite its peace and beauty, you'll find Terrible Mountain in Andover. What's up with that?
3. Plymouth
This little town has big history! Calvin Coolidge, the 30th President of the United States, was born and reared in Plymouth and is buried there as well.
4. Sudbury
While most of this beautiful town is well preserved and beautiful, you'll also find the Hyde Manor, a grand mansion that nature is now reclaiming.
5. Belvidere
Over the river and through the woods to the Morgan covered bridge in Belvidere. This small town of less than 300 people in Lamoile County is absolutely beautiful.
6. Mount Tabor
With loads of hiking and trekking available, Mount Tabor is perfect for outdoor enthusiasts who like a quiet lifestyle.
7. Hancock
Between the Texas Falls and the Middlebury Gap, Hancock is a small town with a lot to offer.
8. Westfield
Farm and forestland dominate Westfield, a small town in Orleans County. This is the perfect place for an outdoor adventure.

10. Peacham
Peacham is bursting at the seams with town pride. It has been said that this little town in the NEK is the most photographed in New England. That's a lot of pictures!
