Check out some of Utah’s most interesting "haunted" spots! You can follow the road trip from the Google map I’ve created. For the sake of length, I’ve left many "haunted" locations out. Add your own, according to the time you have for the trip. Since our state is so big, I decided to break this trip up into two trips: one for Northern Utah, and another for Southern Utah. Watch for the Southern Utah terrifying road trip this week!
This trip takes you from Salt Lake City to Brigham City. Make it an overnight trip by staying at Ben Lomond Suites in Ogden, then visit Idle Isle Cafe for breakfast or lunch before heading back to Salt Lake.
1. Fort Douglas, Salt Lake City
A ghost named Clem wanders around Fort Douglas. Clem committed suicide in the barracks many years ago. He’s usually seen in the military museum, but has also been spotted in the Marriott Library. 32 Potter Street, Salt Lake City
2. Memory Grove, Salt Lake City
A woman in a wedding gown walks through Memory Grove, often crossing the street right in front of unsuspecting drivers. The story is that she was killed in the 1930s or 1940s, right before her wedding. 300 N. Canyon Road.
3. Capitol Theater, Salt Lake City
Patrons at the theater have reported bathroom sinks turning on and off by themselves, ghostly figures and voices. 50 E. 200 S.
4. City County Building, Salt Lake City
The Salt Lake City County Building is apparently haunted by several ghosts. Two are children, a boy and girl, who died during the building’s construction. Their mother’s ghost often accompanies them. All three are seen wandering the third and fourth floors. Visitors say they’ve seen the ghost of former Mayor R.N. Baskin on the first floor. Others hear moans, laughing and items thrown around rooms. 451 S. State Street.
5. Rio Grande Depot, Salt Lake City
The Purple Lady of the Rio Grande Depot has haunted the depot for years. The legend goes that she got into a fight with her fiance while the two were waiting for a train. She took of her engagement ring and flung it onto the tracks, then had second thoughts and climbed down to retrieve it. An incoming train hit and killed her, and she’s haunted the depot ever since. 270 S. Rio Grande Street.
6. Kay’s Cross, Kaysville
A monument in the shape of a cross once occupied this spot on 388 Boynton Road in Kaysville. Apparently, the cross was constructed by a man to memorialize his murdered wife. Visitors to the area reported that the cross would glow during a full moon, and some said that they saw the ghost of a woman. The cross was destroyed, but the area is still supposedly haunted.
7. Layton Hills Mall, Layton
It’s strange to think about a shopping mall as haunted, but many people who have worked in the shops at the mall have stories to tell. Some talk about shadows and voices; others say that the plants in planters are mysteriously uprooted in the middle of the night, with no one showing up on the security cameras. In some stores, mannequins are moved from one place to another, while closed and locked for the night. 1201 N. Hill Field Road.
8. Ogden City Cemetery
The ghost of Florence Grange haunts the cemetery. The 15-year-old girl was waiting to meet her boyfriend to pick her up when she was hit and killed by a car. People say that if you approach her gravestone and flash your headlights three times, Florence will appear and walk toward your car. 1875 Monroe Blvd.
9. Ben Lomond Suites, Ogden
Many deaths have occurred at this hotel over the years, going back to its early history as previous hotels. Multiple ghosts are said to occupy the hotel now. A man fell to his death in an elevator shaft in 1921, and is said to make the elevator move between floors without human intervention. The 11th floor has the most paranormal activity. A woman died in the bathtub there. Her son, who came to collect her things, stayed in the room next door and committed suicide during his stay. Visitors and staff report seeing both mother and son, and seeing the tub in one room fill by itself. The late Mrs. Eccles (wife of a previous owner) is seen walking through the halls, accompanied by the smell of strong perfume. 2510 Washington Blvd.
10. Idle Isle Cafe, Brigham City
The ghost of a Native American man has been reported by several employees at the cafe. He appears as a typical patron, orders food, then disappears. At night, after the cafe is closed, employees have heard loud noises and voices. They’ve noted that things are moved around when no one is there. 24 S. Main Street
