We love all of Utah's small towns, but there's one in particular that's especially charming. Located on Utah's Wasatch Back, the little town of Midway is just minutes away from the glitz and glamour of Park City, but it manages to hold on to an Old World charm that's straight out of a fairy tale.
With a population of just over 5,000 people, Midway has a rustic, rural charm with scenery that looks like it's straight out of a story book.
Some of Midway's earliest settlers were Swiss families who arrived in the 1860s and 70s, and Midway still has much of its original Swiss influence. You'll see it in the architecture throughout town.
There's a strong sense of community here, and you'll definitely want to spend some time in the town's public spaces. Lace up some skates and try out the Midway Ice Rink. It's open seven days a week.
Wasatch Mountain State Park offers stunning scenery and year-round recreation. Enjoy cross country skiing, snowmobiling and snowshoeing here in the winter.
Soldier Hollow was one of the venues for the 2002 Winter Olympics, and it's the perfect place to spend an afternoon flying down the mountain on a snow tube.
During winter months, you'll definitely want to check out the Midway Ice Castles. These gorgeous ice castles are made up completely of icicles!
You can even take a horse-drawn sleigh to visit the castles. Rocky Mountain Outfitters will whisk you right across the snowy landscape to the castles. If you didn't feel as if you were in the middle of a story book yet, you certainly will now!
After all that snowy winter fun, head to The Homestead and soak in The Crater. This hot spring is snuggled underneath a 55-foot-tall dome, and maintains water temperatures of 96 degrees.
When you're looking for places to sleep and dine, you'll have plenty of options, including the picture-perfect Blue Boar Inn.
This quaint little inn is all dressed up with antiques throughout, and you'll absolutely love the cozy atmosphere here.
In fact, this place got its name from the tavern in the story book "The Merry Adventures of Robin Hood!" Stop in at the Truffle Hollow Pub for a bite to eat.
Another enchanting place to lay your head at night is Zermatt Utah Resort & Spa. It looks like it belong in the Swiss Alps, and the pampering you'll get here will be a welcome treat.
Get a massage, grab a bite to eat at one of several dining venues, then take a plunge in the outdoor heated pool.
The carousel, with its hand-painted woodland creatures, will delight you during summer months. In the winter, make some s'mores on the carousel patio.
