Manti is a small town located in Sanpete County. It has a population of just over 3,600 residents and is well worth a visit.
Manti is a true pioneer town. This small town was settled in 1849 and was actually the first pioneer settlement outside of the Wasatch Front.
As you explore Manti, you’ll see much evidence of its pioneer heritage. In fact, there are 22 structures in Manti that are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. These buildings include religious and public structures and private homes.
Of course, one of the most well-known buildings in Manti is the Manti Temple, a place of worship for members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
This beautiful building sits on Temple Hill and is prominent in the Manti skyline. The temple was actually built on a rattlesnake-infested site, which was known as the Manti Stone Quarry. The stone found in the quarry is Manti oolite and was used on the exterior of the temple. Groundbreaking for this building began in 1877 and the temple was dedicated in 1888.
During your visit to the friendliest town in Utah, spend some time exploring Main Street. Visiting the shops and admiring the architecture of this pioneer town will provide you with an afternoon of fun.
You can even take a short drive outside of town to enjoy one of the many outdoor recreation opportunities in the area. There are several off-road trails near Manti, making this a popular place for ATVs during the summer months and snowmobiles in the winter.
There are also dozens of hiking trails located in the Manti La-Sal National Forest. Outside of Manti is the South Tent Mountain Trail. This is a 3.6-mile hike that is rated moderate. You will have some inclines to conquer but you’ll capture some incredible views.
