Our family-friendly road trip begins in Lehi at Thanksgiving Point. We will travel 131 miles to Ogden, passing various museums, attractions, and restaurants along the way. Museum of Natural Curiosity, Thanksgiving Point, Lehi
Our first stop on our road trip is one where you can spend a lot of time — an entire day if you wanted. The Museum of Natural Curiosity is one of the largest interactive museums in the Beehive State. There are more than 400 interactive exhibits that bring the world to life for every member of your family. Make sure to visit this museum’s website for information on hours, tickets, exhibits, etc.
Your entire family will love a scenic train ride on a historic train. The Heber Valley Railroad offers several ride options complete with a concession car, live entertainment, and more. During your ride, you will capture incredible views of Heber Valley, Deer Creek Reservoir, the Wasatch Mountains, and more.
Dairy Keen has been a favorite place to eat in Utah for more than 75 years. This train-themed restaurant is exciting for adults and children with its train toys, train tables, and even a model train that circles around the restaurant. Olympic Park is a 400-acre venue that was built for the 2002 Salt Lake Olympic Winter Games. During this stop, you can take a tour of the venue and learn about the Olympic games. You can also take a ride in a bobsled and if visiting during the summer, you can enjoy plenty of thrills on the zipline, Alpine Slide, extreme tubing hill, and more. Just south of Ogden and on the northwest corner of Hill Air Force Base is the Hill Aerospace Museum. This fascinating museum is home to more than 70 aircraft and thousands of artifacts. You’ll learn all about the United States Air Force, Hill Air Force Base, and the State of Utah during your visit. Whether you are fascinated by aircraft, the Airforce, or you just want to learn something new, this is one stop on our road trip you won’t want to skip.
Fort Buenaventura was the first permanent Anglo settlement in the Great Basin. Today, it is the perfect place to spend an afternoon (or an entire day). Fort Buenaventura is located on 84-acres and is home to a pond, fort replicas, walking trails, picnic areas, and more. You can learn more about this unique park in our feature article.
Even adults will bring out their inner child at this dinosaur park in Ogden. The George S Eccles Dinosaur Park is 5 acres filled with dozens of full-size dinosaur replicas that come to life thanks to robotics. During your visit, make sure to give yourself plenty of time to explore the museum that features interactive exhibits and full-size dinosaur skeletons.

The Energy Loop, one of the best scenic drives in Utah, actually consists of two forks. From Fairview, you'll travel along State Highway 31 to the junction of State Highway 264. From there, the byway forks. You can continue along State Highway 264 to Scofield, then on to Colton. Or, head south through the Manti-La Sal National Forest along State Highway 31 until you reach Huntington. To make a complete loop, you could drive from Colton, along State Highway 6 to State Highway 10, past Helper, and down to Huntington.

If you want to take a drive on the Energy Loop in Utah, you will be blown away by the fantastic views, but first, you should make sure you have the proper road trip snacks.
The Huntington and Eccles Canyons National Scenic Byways, or "Energy Loop," takes you through some of Utah's most beautiful and often under-appreciated scenery. It really is a road that should be experienced by everyone in the state and doesn't get nearly the recognition it deserves.
To make a complete loop, you could drive from Colton, along State Highway 6 to State Highway 10, past Helper, and down to Huntington, for a total of 146 miles.

The little town of Fairview has a population of just over 1,200 people. This can also be the gateway for this scenic byway in Utah.
One quick stop you can make early on in your journey is the Beaver Dam Reservoir/ Benches Pond. Sit by the water, take in the view, or simply walk around for a moment and enjoy some fresh air.

Scofield was the site of one of the worst mining disasters in history. In May of 1900, a spark set off an explosion that killed 199 miners. This photo shows the old headstones of the miners who were killed, along with newer headstones that accompany each grave.
Along the way, you will pass the Ford Creek Waterfall which is viewable from the road. Then, you will enter a stunning canyon known as The Castle Gate. This section will feature towering mesas for which Utah is famous.
The Manti-La Sal National Forest covers 1.2 million acres. You will have plenty of time to drive through sections of this beautiful natural area throughout your trip on the Energy Loop.
