Much of Utah consists of a vast sweeping desert, and that's particularly true for the southeastern portion of the state. Don't get me wrong - our desert landscape definitely has much to offer, but every once in a while you stumble upon a little oasis tucked right in the middle of sagebrush and sandstone. This one is known as Green River, Utah.
With the Book Cliffs as a background, this little town sits right on the banks of the Green River.
It's named after the majestic river and it has less than a thousand residents. It's small enough to have that hometown feel but big enough to have a few amenities that really make it interesting.
This is truly an oasis with plenty of trees and green spaces.
It doesn't hurt that there's a golf course here, either.
The course is part of Green River State Park and is surrounded by cottonwood trees.
Green River State Park is a welcome sanctuary for campers and daytime visitors alike.
You'll find plenty of shade and grass here.
This campground has plenty of space with approximately 50 campsites and most of them offer hook-ups. There is a cabin you can also reserve if you want more of a glamping experience and two group campsites if you wish to bring a large group along.
The picnic areas provide views of the river, making for the perfect day spent outdoors.

The Book Cliffs provide a stunning backdrop to the Green River.
As you look at the cliffs and their plateau, it's hard to believe that you're sitting on a river, surrounded by lush greenery.
Thanks to the Green River, this place is surrounded by beauty.
The river provides the much-needed water that allows these trees and bushes to thrive.
There's another reason this place is special.
Watermelons! Green River grows the best melons in the world.
The Green River Melon Days Festival has been delighting Utahns for more than 115 years and typically takes place in September each year. This festival celebrates the town’s famous melon varieties and their growers.
See the parade and car show, participate in the melon run, or trap shoot, and enjoy the carnival. There are tons to do during the festival! Check out the Melon Days website for specific information about this year's event.
While you are in Green River, don't miss the J. W. Powell River History Museum.
