It's spring in Utah, which means that we have some nice days, and some snowy days. If you're like me, you started looking forward to road trip season with the first official day of spring (which was March 20th). Even though you might want to wait until the snow melts to attempt this trip, it's fun to start planning now.
Spend Friday playing in Ogden.
There’s so much to do in Ogden, that you’ll have to choose just a few activities. You might start at Union Station, where you’ll find four museums and two art galleries.
Fly in a wind tunnel at iFly.
It’s like skydiving...without the heights.
Visit Hill Aerospace Museum.
The museum sits on 30 acres, about 5 miles south of Ogden. It houses more than 90 aircraft and vehicles.
Grab lunch on Historic 25th Street.
You’ll find tons of cafes, bistros, coffee shops and pubs on Historic 25th Street.
Cheer for the Raptors at Lindquist Field.
Watching a Raptors game is a great way to spend the afternoon.
Enjoy a picnic dinner at Beus Pond.
Beus Pond is a nice spot for a picnic. You can feed the ducks, too (watch for ducklings!).
Stay overnight at Ben Lomond Suites.
Ben Lomond is the only "Grand hotel" left in Utah. Built in 1927, it’s said to be haunted. Whether you see ghosts or not, you’re guaranteed to enjoy your stay.
Saturday morning, grab some breakfast at Kaffe Mercantile.
This cute cafe gets high ratings on consumer sites such as Yelp!.
After breakfast, drive up Ogden Canyon to Pineview Reservoir.
Fish, water ski or boat.
Hike, bike or play disc golf at Snowbasin.
Snowbasin offers lots of summer recreation. Enjoy some lunch while you’re there.
Grab a drink at Shooting Star Saloon.
It’s Utah’s oldest continually operating bar.
Drive north along State Route 162/165.
You’ll pass through Avon, Paradise and Hyrum. If you have time, stop and explore these cute little towns.
Arrive in Logan, just in time for a snack.
Try the locally-made ice cream at Aggie Ice Cream. Aggie Blue Mint is their specialty.
Take a hike up Logan Canyon to the Wind Caves.
Most people can hike up and back in about 2 hours.
Enjoy dinner at the Bluebird Restaurant.
The Bluebird, located on Logan’s adorable Main Street, opened in 1914. The soda fountain is still there, and the food is delicious.
Stay overnight in Logan.
The Seasons at the Riter Mansion is a nice bed and breakfast. Built in 1898, it’s located in Logan’s historic district.
Sunday morning, drive south on U.S. 89, toward Mantua.
The drive is pretty scenic, traversing Wellsville Canyon, passing Dry Lake and climbing Sardine Summit.
Hike Willard Peak, the tallest mountain in Weber County.
The scenic backway is 12 miles long, and unpaved. Check road conditions before you head out. Hike first to Willard Peak, where you’ll enjoy this view, then continue along the ridgeline trail to Ben Lomond Peak.
Visit the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge.
After your hike, you’ll continue along U.S. 89 to Brigham City. The Wildlife Education Center is closed on Sunday, but you can still complete the 12-mile auto tour loop.
Explore the town of Brigham City.
Check out Brigham City, then head home.
Of course, there are many more activities you could add to this trip, depending on how much time you have. What would you suggest?
