Winter is the season of romance. After all, what brings you closer to that special someone than cozying up by the fireplace or strolling through a snow-covered town square adorned with holiday lights? Marshall, a small town nestled deep in east Texas, offers the latter. With charming shops and restaurants and quaint bed and breakfasts, it's the most romantic winter getaway in Texas.
With the motto "A Hometown for Everyone," it doesn't get much more charming than Marshall.
During wintertime, this small town in the heart of east Texas is like a scene from a Hallmark movie. Even better if the town square, the centerpiece of which is the 1901 Harrison County Courthouse, is covered in snow!
Start your trip with a stroll around the historic downtown district, where quaint shops and restaurants abound.
From general stores offering unique, handmade items to trendy boutiques, there's little you won't find here.
Hand in hand with your special someone, explore all the old homes that give the town its character.
Many are restored to original condition, and they look especially beautiful underneath a dusting of snow.
Don't miss checking out the Texas and Pacific Depot, a historic railroad station built in 1912.
Today, the depot is served by Amtrak, whose Texas Eagle train from Chicago to Los Angeles makes a pit stop here. There's also a fascinating railroad museum!
When it comes time to rest your head for the evening, there are plenty of hotels and bed and breakfasts to choose from.

Visiting in the month of December? You're in for a real treat.
The annual Wonderland of Lights celebration delights both tourists and locals, going strong after nearly 35 years. Featuring millions of lights, carriage rides, an ice rink, Santa’s Village, train rides, and special events every weekend, it's such a dreamy way to ring in the holiday season.
