It's no secret that the true heart and soul of Texas lies in our small towns. There's a distinct charm to old-fashioned town squares, dance halls, general stores, and horses trotting down the street that makes you feel like all is right in the world. Here are 10 of the most beautiful small towns in Texas - you're sure to love them as much as we do!
1. Fredericksburg
Downtown Fredericksburg is the definition of charm. Plus, it has so much unique German history that really sets it apart from other small towns that it's a fascinating spot for history buffs and small town charm-lovers alike.
2. Jefferson
Jefferson will take you back to a simpler time. This town square looks like a scene from an old movie, as does much of the rest of this little town.
3. Waxahachie
Waxahachie is a cute little town south of Dallas known for the Scarborough Faire and Munster Mansion replica. Plus, "Texas" is plastered front and center on a downtown building. That's enough to warrant a visit from me.
4. Hico
Looking for things to do in Texas? Hico has you covered, and as if it wasn't charming enough already, Hico's motto is "where everybody is somebody." How cute is that? Oh, not to mention they have some of the best pie in Texas at the Koffee Kup Cafe, so make sure to check that out, too.
5. Calvert
Calvert is about as picturesque as it gets, with great shops and beautiful old homes to drive around and look at. This one feels like something out of a Texan dream.
7. Gruene
Put on your boogie shoes; this little German town is home to the oldest dance hall in Texas! Of all the places to visit in Texas that are teeming with history, this one is among the most intriguing.
8. Nacogdoches
The oldest town in Texas happens to be one of the most beautiful small towns in Texas, too. The charm is cranked up to 11 here! Just don't mispronounce the name, y'hear?
9. Luckenbach
Any town with a population of 25 and a general store made out of logs has to make this list, but especially when that town is the famed Luckenbach.
10. Alpine
Alpine is all the southern small town charm you could ever ask for with a gorgeous view of the West Texas mountains. Does it get any better than that? We submit that it does not.
