Tennessee is a traditional state that attracts newcomers in scads - especially in recent years. The growing culture of young folk and music scene, plus the draw of the Great Smoky Mountains brings all sorts of interesting folk to this neck of the woods. Have you visited the Volunteer State, or are you planning to? Well. If you aren't lucky enough to know a native, here are a couple things you pretty much NEED if you're going to cross over state lines.
15) Allergy Medicine. GOOD allergy medicine.
Allergies are QUITE the thing out here. We fight it one day at a time and take it in stride with our gorgeous fields and natural vistas.
14) An appetite
Tennessee is full of some of the greatest cooks in the nation. Name? Mama.
13) Gym Membership
Also a gym membership. To counteract all the great food, y'all!
12) BOOTS
Hardy boots or cowboy boots, either one. Tennesseans are hard workers and adventurers, so they're a necessary staple.
11) Great car insurance
We will never claim to be good drivers. Sorry, folks.
10) An innovative hairdresser
With all that summer humidity?! This is absolutely key.
9) An appreciation for FANTASTIC bbq
It's pretty much a religion out here, with that kind of following.
8) And whiskey
Because we make the best. Hands down.
7) Love of music
Nashville is Music City after all, hey? Plus Tennesseans are insanely talented at anything that make a melody. Not even kidding.
6) Patience for the newcomers - aka? Hipsters.
Nashville is the main draw for these young'ns. Just be patient, they'll grow up.
5) A secret biscuit recipe
Preferably one that was passed down through generations, of course.
4) A sense of humor
Tennesseans are whip smart and FUNNY. You'll figure that out real quick once you get here - solid folk.
3) A sense of direction
East Tennessee is not Middle Tennessee is not West Tennessee. All great people, all great places, but with their own ups and downs. Figuring your way around can be interesting at first.
2) ORANGE
In your closet or on your car or you could always just bleed orange? Go Vols!
1) A love of nature
With the Great Smoky Mountains to the east and a stunning array of field land and waterfall country flanking the whole of the state, you simply HAVE to love this great earth. After all - Tennessee got the best part of it!
