There's nothing like celebrating the good ol' biscuit, folks. It's a local staple, part of the food pyramid that holds up the south and worth a whole lotta love, if you ask us. Knoxville may not exactly be a small town, but it has thought up a way to bring the small towns of Tennessee to the city. These biscuits? They're from grandma's kitchen, from your mama, that favorite sister of yours. This here is Tennessee home cookin'.
Every year, more than 20,000 people from across the world flock to Knoxville to celebrate the most perfect Southern food staple -- the biscuit.
The International Biscuit Festival was started in 2009 by locals that wanted to share Knoxville biscuits the world. Now in their 9th year, they're sponsored by the Travel Channel!
When visiting the festival, make sure to sample the biscuits at the Biscuit Boulevard tasting area, peruse the Biscuit Bazaar, and watch the Biscuit Baking Contest.
Looking for more biscuit-themed activities? Look no further. You can also vie for the title of Miss or Mr. Biscuit Art and Biscuit Songwriting in the pageant.
This year's festival is scheduled for May 20th. The event is free except for the Biscuit Boulevard tasting area, which is $15. Admission includes tastings of five different biscuit creations.
Since 2012, the two days leading in to the festival are filled with the Southern Food Writing Conference, which includes seminars, networking and (of course) food. In fact, one of the dinners is at world-renowned Blackberry Farm, which makes the conference worth the price of admission alone.
