If you either hail from the Mount Rushmore State or know someone who does, you know that South Dakotans are some of the most creative folks you will ever meet. Think about it: where else but South Dakota will you find gigantic rock carvings, the innovative hot beef sandwich, and a palace made of corn? For further proof that South Dakota is downright creative, check out the colorful town of Hill City:
Located in the "Heart of the Black Hills," Hill City is close to all of SoDak's biggest attractions, but is worth visiting on its own.
Established in 1876 as the first Black Hills gold settlement, Hill City managed to remain both relevant and popular despite its local mines drying up generations ago, and now boasts one of the best art scenes in the Midwest.
If you love the arts or consider yourself to be a creative at heart, you will never run out of things to see and do around Hill City, beginning with special events like the annual Sculpture in the Hills, Black Hills Film Festival, and the Hill City Quilt Show.
In addition to these highly-anticipated annual events, Hill City is home to such mainstay attractions as year-round public art displays, museums, and even the world-renowned Warrior's Work & Ben West Gallery (pictured).
To learn more about Hill City and its impressive art scene, please visit the Hill City Arts Council's website.
As if the arts scene was not reason enough to visit, Hill City is also home to many other can't-miss attractions, like a delicious food scene, locally-owned boutiques, and easy access to outdoor recreation.
Please note: Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, several annual events have been either canceled or postponed, so please visit the Art Council's website or call (605) 574-2810 before you go.
