Do YOU know where the center of the United States is? While many would say it's in Kansas, they are wrong (well, sort of, anyway, as Kansas is the center of the lower 48), as the true center is really here in South Dakota! If you have yet to visit this geographically significant place, you should make plans now to see the charming small town that houses the marker:
Welcome to Belle Fourche!
Incorporated in 1903, Belle Fourche (French for "beautiful fork") has always boasted a robust agricultural scene and now houses nearly 5,000 residents and - of course - the Geographic Center of the United States.
Thanks to the addition of Alaska and Hawaii, the geographic center of the United States is located a mere 20 miles north of Belle Fourche, with the town paying via a beautiful marker, garden, and Tri-State Museum.
When you visit the Tri-State Museum and Center of the Nation Visitor Center, you will be treated to many exhibits celebrating the area's history, plus a unique photo opportunity with the Center of the Nation Monument.
In addition to the Tri-State Museum and Center of the Nation Monument, Belle Fourche is also home to numerous parks and outdoor areas, museums, shops, and more.
What would the "beautiful fork" be without stellar places to eat? Belle Fourche has those, too!
