Everyone who is from — or has ever been to — SoDak knows that it is chock full of some of the most picturesque small towns in America, so how could anyone ever name just one as the very best? It's a tough call, but after doing a lot of research, we feel confident in saying that this one tiny town is secretly the best place in all of South Dakota:
Located near the SoDak/Minnesota border lies the tiny town of Gary, AKA the "Gate City to the Dakotas."
Established as one of the first settlements in the Dakota Territory in 1872, Gary was once a vital stop for the railroad, which was an important industry for not just the area, but the state as a whole.
Home to an estimated 250, Gary may not sound like it has much to offer, but what it lacks in size, it makes up for with its friendly residents, special events, and local businesses.
What kinds of businesses? For starters, there are a number of delicious restaurants and down-home bars (like the pictured State Line Bar)...
...a world-class resort and business center...
...a vibrant art scene, museums, and surrounding landscape like THIS.
Shh, do you hear that sound? Me neither... isn't it great?!
