Gilmore Girls fans in the Palmetto State will delight in knowing South Carolina has its very own "Stars Hollow," and it's none other than the City of Newberry. From the town square that always seems to have something fun and interesting happening, to the little diner up the street and the friendliest people you can ever imagine, Newberry, South Carolina is a delightful town you won't be able to pass through without stopping.
Newberry was founded in 1894. Like the fictional town of Stars Hollow, it has a wonderful town square, shown here during one of the many events that take place throughout the year.
The city is also adorned with beautiful old buildings and homes, like the Newberry Opera House shown here.
The opera house first opened in 1882 and still functions as a venue for live performances.
The Wells Japanese Garden in this small town is a must-see with great water features. When the lillies are blooming it's out of this world!
Add this to your long list of photo opportunities or "selfie spots."
Newberry College, a private liberal arts school, occupies 90 manicured acres in Newberry. The campus is a beautiful place to take a walk.
The Visitors Center is located in the old courthouse near the Newberry Opera House. This restored building was first used as the original courthouse for the county. You'll find public restrooms in this location.
Newberry's downtown is very much alive with thriving businesses and plenty to see and do. Memorial Park, dedicated to locals who have served in the armed forces, is located adjacent to the town square.
Not far away is The Grille on Main, Newberry's own "Luke's Diner," a popular spot for lunch or dinner.
The burgers are mouthwatering, but they also have great daily specials!
Newberry has many great restaurants. Another downtown eatery worthy of a visit is Steven W's Downtown Bistro.
They're open for dinner and they're close to the Opera House. That sounds like date material to me!
From the lively historic downtown, to the many events in the town square and the many points of interest, this historic small city in South Carolina is so charming you'll have to stop whenever you're passing through.
