Here we go again, in relentless pursuit of everything South Carolina, we're spilling the beans on a crashed bomber plane that sits abandoned in the woods in South Carolina. It's not like it's a secret or anything. The world has known about the rubble since the plane crashed in 1943. But, if you're one of the many that had no idea about it, you can get the scoop below and then decide for yourself if it's something you just have to see in person.
Located on Parris Island just beyond the eastern corner of the parking lot of The Legends Golf Pro Shop, lies the remains of a bomber crash from 1943.
Walk a short distance in to the woods and you'll see it: a distinguishable pile of metal that's obviously what's left of a plane crash.
The crash happened 75 years ago during a military training exercise.
The plane was a Brewster Buccaneer Scout Bomber similar to the one shown below.
It crashed near the runway during training, and then it was towed to its present location so it would be out of the way.
Curiously, even though the remains of the crash are obscured by the woodsy area, there is a marker on the site explaining about the curious object in the woods. We're thinking that was probably a wise choice on someone's part!
Both crewman aboard the plane survived the crash.
