Warm weather in South Carolina means one thing: it's time to head to the beach. That is, unless you prefer the cooler temperatures of the mountains. But for us beach-going folks, there's nothing like enjoying a healthy dose of sand between our toes and the sound of crashing waves. Here in the Palmetto State, we're blessed with some of the best beaches in the U.S. To prove this, continue reading, and learn about some fun things to do in Edisto Beach.
If you want to avoid the beach crowds, the parking issues, the loud bars, and busy roads and intersections, then head to Edisto! This just may be the best beach town in South Carolina to visit when the weather is warm.
Next to Pawleys Island and perhaps the few islands here that are only reachable by boat, Edisto is on the list of places that have managed to avoid over development followed by throngs of tourists.
It's a spot where, if you want a place to stay, you'll need to rent a house, or...
Take advantage of Edisto Beach State Park.
The park features seven fully furnished cabins, plus two campgrounds with more than 100 campsites; some suitable for RVs. The campgrounds are located both on the beachfront (Beach Campground) and on the salt marsh (Live Oak Campground).
Edisto Beach State Park and its ocean breezes make any summer day feel a little like paradise. Wander the park's 4.2-mile trail network to explore the marsh, a maritime forest, and lots and lots of sand between your toes.
Prefer a more remote beach? Head off the island for a few miles and take a short drive over to Botany Bay where you'll take a short (less than one mile) walk on a trail out to a beach that's unlike any other around.
(Note: dogs are not allowed at Botany Bay because they disrupt nesting birds. So leave the dog at home because you can't leave him in the car.)
After a day of fun in the sun at Edisto Beach, you're sure to have worked up an appetite. There are plenty of places to get a bite to eat!
Tortuga's Mexican Grill is a great choice if you're craving Mexican food or a margarita.
Sea Cow Eatery is another great choice.
Order up salads, seafood, sandwiches, and more from this beloved island eatery.
Or head to another Edisto icon that's been around since 1948: Whaley's.
Trusted as the place to find the freshest seafood, plus burgers and more, Whaley's is an understated, come-as-you-are kind of place where everyone feels right at home the minute they enter the door.
With so much to see and do, the quiet little bedroom community of Edisto Beach is the best beach town in South Carolina to visit on a warm day. Looking for some travel inspiration?
