You might not think there are a whole lot of trips to take in Rhode Island. Though it might be the smallest state, if you think it isn't filled with amazing things to do, you couldn't be more wrong! Little Rhody has fantastic places to see all over the state. Here are 10 perfect trips to take in the smallest state.
1. Beavertail State Park, Jamestown
This stunning state park offers several acres of gorgeous hiking trails along the cliffs of Narragansett Bay. A historic lighthouse dating back to the mid 1800s serves as a museum and paints a quintessential New England picture. Other features include a small aquarium, restrooms, and secluded beaches set at the end of walking paths.
Set on 1095 Ives Road in Warwick is this park offering almost 500 acres of trails, fields, picnic areas, beaches, and so much more. This place is perfect to use for an outdoor family party at one of its covered patios, or simply enjoy a beachside stroll.
3. Block Island National Wildlife Refuge
The refuge began in 1973 with the transfer of 28 acres by the U.S. Coast Guard. It has no grown to a total of 134 acres of lush trees and greenery along a beautiful shore. This gorgeous place is internationally acclaimed for its large concentration of migratory birds and offers so many wonderful things to see.
This charming historic village rests between the cities of Warwick and Cranston. It is filled with small boutiques, great restaurants, and so much more!
Route 1A through Rhode Island is a 39 mile stunningly gorgeous scenic route. This trip goes through some of the very best that South County has to offer, from beaches, to nature refuges, and so much more! You can pick it up in South Kingstown from Route 1 and travel along the coast all the way to the Connecticut border in Westerly.
6. Sachuest Point National Wildlife Refuge, Middletown
This acclaimed nature refuge boasts 2.5 miles of trails with beautiful views of the ocean. It can be found at 769 Sachuest Point Road in Middletown.
7. Burlingame State Park, Charlestown
Bordering Kettle Pond in Charlestown is this massive park and campground. Enjoy truly amazing camping, hiking, fishing, and even boating at this wonderful place.
This small town is found in Newport County and maintains a population of just under 3,500. The town offers an amazing winery, vintage shops, delicious restaurants, and beautiful Sakonnet Point.
Few parks in the state compare to Neutaconkanut Park found on Plainfield Street in Providence. Not only is this a lovely park with a skate park, baseball fields, and a playground, there are also acres and acres of densely forested hiking trails with brilliant wildlife diversity. You just might not know that when you first pull up to park. If you walk up the hill you'll find the beginning of the trails that take you high above the city.
The town of Westerly is situated along the Connecticut border in Washington County. Not only is it home to some of the state's most stunning beaches such as Misquamicut and Quonnie Beach, it also has several nature trials, great restaurants, and wonderful boutiques. Spending time in this Rhode Island town makes for a perfect day trip.
