One of the best ways to explore is to hop in the car and go. While it's fun having no agenda, a 3-day road trip in Rhode Island can mean so many things. We can visit the beautiful lighthouses in Rhode Island or the breathtaking Rhode Island waterfalls. With all of Rhode Island's natural wonders (and manmade ones, too!), we're never at a loss for where to go. There's so much to do when you take this weekend road trip in Rhode Island to three state parks.
Here's the itinerary for this 3-day day road trip in Rhode Island. Feel free to customize as you see fit.
1. Colt State Park – Bristol
The first day of taking one of the best road trips in Rhode Island brings us to Colt State Park. A beloved Rhode Island gem, Colt State Park is cozy with 464 acres. However, that relatively small space boasts plenty to do, including hiking trails, walking or biking along paved paths, and boating. If you're visiting after a snowfall, bring your skis for a bit of cross-country skiing. Get a peek at all that Colt State Park has to offer in our previous article.
Since Colt State Park is open during the day only, you might want to book a stay at one of the hotels or B&Bs in Bristol.
2. Burlingame State Park – Charlestown
Bring your camping gear along for our next stop of this weekend road trip in Rhode Island. Burlingame State Park in Charlestown is home to a beautiful campground that features cabins and tent camping. Or park your RV. Spend your day lounging on the beach or cooling off in the water, or go kayaking or canoeing. The park also features picturesque hiking trails. Read all about the huge Burlingame State Park campground in our previous article.
3. Lincoln Woods State Park – Lincoln
Our three-day road trip in Rhode Island ends at Lincoln Woods State Park, another gem that offers a little bit of everything - from horseback riding to kayaking.
