Rhode Island might not have as many cities and towns as the other states, but the ones it does have are pretty fantastic! From places filled with historic attractions, museums, and amazing natural attractions, there are endless great things to do and see. Few would argue that Providence offers the most wonderful attractions.
1. Parks and natural attractions
Providence is filled with amazing parks throughout the city. From Roger Williams Park and Zoo to India Point Park, the options are endless. If you're looking for a fantastic view of the city, Prospect Park is perfect to take in the skyline from the East Side. For hiking, visit Neutaconkanut Park on Plainfield Street and head to the top of the hill.
2. History
From Providence's role in the Industrial Revolution to its colonial history, this New England city is rich in historical attractions.
3. The river
Strolling along the beautiful river that runs through Providence is a beautiful way to enjoy the city. You can also kayak, or take a romantic gondola ride! Ways to enjoy the river are limitless.
4. Art and culture
Providence is nicknamed the "Creative Capitol" for a reason. Amazing art displays can be enjoyed throughout the city and fantastic galleries abound. The RISD Museum on College Hill is especially amazing.
5. Colleges and universities
Providence is definitely a college town. From Rhode Island College to Brown University, the diversity of schools is impressive in such a small city. The city is also home to Rhode Island School of Design, Johnson and Wales, and more.
6. The restaurants
Rhode Island is routinely ranked one of the top food destinations in the country! Not only does Johnson and Wales, one of the best culinary schools around, help secure this, but the diversity of restaurant types also helps. Enjoy authentic Italian food, Mexican, Thai, you name it! It's all here.
7. Events
From Providence Honk Festival to PVDFest, there are exciting events happening throughout the year in this creative city. It's difficult to be bored with so many fantastic festivals and local community events happening just about every weekend.
8. Nightlife
Providence has too many fantastic bars to list them all. Enjoy a cocktail on the water at the Whiskey Republic in Fox Point, or swing by Ogie's Trailer Park for a drink at most everyone's favorite neighborhood West Side spot. Not to mention all of the fantastic downtown spots such as the Stable and the Boombox.
9. Architecture
The city's history has also helped ensure amazing architecture throughout. Just strolling through the city you can find gorgeous colonial homes, federal style buildings, victorian houses, and so much more.
10. Location
Providence is located in close proximity to several other major cities. You can be in Boston in an hour by train and New York by bus in 3. Other cities include Worcester, New Haven, Hartford, and others.
