Fall might be the best time of the year to take a day trip around Philadelphia. You've got crisp weather, beautiful fall foliage, fewer crowds, and plenty of autumn charm. Check out these must-visit destinations and make the best of the last few weeks of fall, before winter comes roaring in.
1. Ocean City, NJ
Down the shore in the fall? Actually, it's the best time to visit the Jersey Shore's beach towns! You'll find mild weather still (even if it's chilly, just bundle up!) and plenty of shops and boardwalk stores are open on the weekend year round. You'll skip the crowds and enjoy Mack & Manco's* pizza in the best kind of throwback day trip.

2. Medford, NJ
This historic mill town is now home to plenty of natural beauty, farm stands, pick-your-own produce at Johnson's Corner Farm, and a lively main street with restaurants that will please even the pickiest eaters. Visit their local breweries, too, for a full day of fun.
3. Jim Thorpe, PA
The Gateway to the Poconos is a popular fall day trip near Philadelphia for those who love the quaint shops, challenging hikes, historic railroads, or stunning fall foliage. The drive up is almost as scenic as the town itself.
4. The Philadelphia Zoo
Of course, you can always stay more local. Visiting the Zoo in autumn is one of the best times of the year, because the animals are active and preparing for winter. Plus, the view of fall foliage from the Zoo Balloon is unmatched.
5. Ringing Rocks County Park, Bucks County, PA

Enjoy both sides of this historic town where General George Washington famously crossed the Delaware River. It's a lot easier now, and the views from the walkable bridge will show you stunning foliage and scenery.
