Spring's always jam-packed with fun activities in Pittsburgh. Add all of those extra, seasonal activities to our normal activities and whew! We can get tired pretty quickly. Ultimately, we end up leaving something we really want to do off of our schedule, promising there's always next year. For a relaxing and fun way to spend a few hours with the entire family, head to this farm near Pittsburgh for a strawberry picking adventure.
Breathe in the fresh spring air and soak up the golden sunshine at Trax Farms, a sprawling farm near Pittsburgh that's perhaps best known for its epic fall festival.
Plenty of Pittsburghers have made strawberry picking at Trax Farms an annual tradition, so it can get crowded. Fortunately, you'll find plenty of parking.
In fact, wear comfy shoes because Trax Farms' strawberry fields span seven lush acres.
Just follow the signs to the strawberry patch, which usually opens for pick your own at the beginning of June, depending on the weather.
Then, start filling your box with luscious strawberries, available in six varieties.
And, plan a visit during the Annual Strawberry Festival, slated for June 15-16, 2019. The annual two-day festival will feature plenty of strawberry goodies — from strawberry slushies to strawberry shortcake — and fun for the whole family.
Festival hours will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days with performances by the Stray Dogs on June 15 and Pocket Change on June 16.
But, if you plan to visit the strawberry fields outside of festival hours, call the farm at 412-835-3246 prior to showing up to ensure that there are strawberry picking hours that day.
