Nothing can compare to the breathtaking view of the Pittsburgh skyline from atop Mount Washington. Find the perfect spot for taking photos and stopping to admire the view from the Grandview Overlook. Pittsburghers and tourists can climb to the top of Mount Washington aboard either the Duquesne Incline or the Monongahela Incline.

2. Ohiopyle State Park – 124 Main Street, Ohiopyle, PA 15470

Ohiopyle State Park may not be in Pittsburgh but it’s within easy driving distance – less than an hour and a half from downtown. With its two main waterfalls, Ohiopyle Falls and Cucumber Falls, the sprawling 20,000 acre state park offers opportunities for hiking, biking, horseback riding, camping, and whitewater rafting. Visit during the winter months to go cross country skiing, sledding, or snowmobiling.

3. National Aviary – 700 Arch Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15212

The National Aviary holds prominence as the United States’ lone "independent indoor nonprofit zoo dedicated to birds." The aviary houses an assortment of birds – from penguins to bald eagles. Carve out enough time to explore all of the exhibits, such as the tropical rainforest, the wetlands, and cloud forest.

4. Heinz Memorial Chapel – South Bellefield Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15213

Pittsburghers have turned to Heinz Memorial Chapel for quiet reflection since 1938. The non-denominational chapel was a gift to the University of Pittsburgh from the Heinz Family. Worship or attend classes at the breathtaking chapel. Or, take a walking tour of the chapel – and admire its nearly 24 stained glass windows – during regular chapel hours.

5. The Nationality Rooms – 4200 Fifth Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15260

The Cathedral of Learning, an architectural masterpiece, hosts the Nationality Rooms. The collection of 30 rooms provides visitors with a glimpse at life in different countries. Visit rooms focused on Scotland, Armenia, Japan, and Turkey, all countries from which individuals came to Pittsburgh.

6. The U.S.S. Requin – Three Rivers Heritage Trail, Pittsburgh, PA 15212

Climb aboard the U.S.S. Requin, a World War II sub that once housed 80 Navy members. The submarine is docked outside of the Carnegie Science Center. Get a glimpse of how military members lived, ate, and slept in the sub that was decommissioned in 1969.

7. The Andy Warhol Museum – 117 Sandusky Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15212

The Andy Warhol Museum, celebrating the life and the art of the Pittsburgh artist, lays claim as North America’s largest museum focusing on a lone artist. Visitors will enjoy an interactive experience, using headphones as you go from exhibit to exhibit.
