There are two types of seasonal superfans: those who go all out for the holidays, with twinkle lights, Santas aplenty, and elves and reindeer galore; and Halloween people. It's easy to spot Halloween people; they're the ones with the massive spider webs strewn across their entryways, larger-than-life inflatable ghosts and goblins on their lawns, animatronic monsters guarding the front door, and spooky skeletons peeking out from windows and trees. For Halloween people, November 1 is always a huge disappointment -- why can't this haunting holiday last longer? Happily, there's a place in Oregon where Halloween lasts an entire month. Every October, the town of St. Helens, Oregon, becomes a spooky Halloween village known as The Spirit of Halloweentown, and it's a must-visit for all fans of frightful, delightful fun.
Every October, the city of St. Helens, Oregon, goes from this...
...to this.
"This" is an exuberant, month-long celebration of all things spooky and delightfully frightful. This is The Spirit of Halloweentown.
Inspiration struck St. Helens in 1998, after the town was selected as the setting for the Disney Channel's “Halloweentown" special.
("Twilight" was also partially filmed here, too.)
Since then, the town goes all out for Halloween, transforming their Riverfront District into the "Spirit of Halloweentown," the best Halloween town in Oregon, and quite possibly the country!
All month long, St. Helens gets into the spooky spirit with parades, street performers, costume contests, and themed events.
Local businesses participate in this massive spookfest, too!
And because it's the season of the wild and weird, you'll see some truly bizarre things during Halloweentown, too...
A full schedule of the month's events can be found here, and all-inclusive tickets are available through the event website.
Just like the Olympic Flame, when the Giant Pumpkin in St. Helens is lit on October 1, it stays aglow through the end of the month.
Life is too short to not have fun. And The Spirit of Halloweentown in St. Helens, Oregon, is the most frighteningly fun event you'll attend this fall!
