Oregon's coastal towns are the perfect place to spend a weekend relaxing, and they've been popular destinations for decades. It's always interesting to learn about the histories of these little spots, and the Visit Seaside Oregon website has a wonderful history blog written by Nate Burke that's full of vintage photos and fun facts.

Did you know that Seaside once had a pier? Pacific Pier stretched out into the ocean from 1904 to 1914, but was eventually so damaged from winter storms that it was torn down.
These lovely ladies look like they've been fishing. They're dressed in matching outfits. Do you suppose they're twins or was there a particular fishing costume back then?
This building was completed in 1924 for the Seaside Baths Natatorium, which was a salt water bath house/swimming pool.
The aquarium opened in 1937. There was a small lunch counter in the corner on the main level (you'll find the gift shop there now).
Selnes Grocery was the place to go for everything under the sun, from a gallon of milk to home furnishings.
So much has changed over the years in Seaside, but one thing will always remain the same: kids will love to play on the beach!

Another thing people will always love? Clamming! Just imagine doing it while wearing an ankle-length dress.
Everyone in town came out to celebrate the opening of the promenade in 1921. Look at those cool cars!

The ladies always love the handsome lifeguards, and these two gentlemen (Clarke Thompson and Wally Hug) were particularly popular. Their furry friend, Bruno, was at the ready to help save lives, too.
Remember when communication from loved ones came in the form of a letter? You had to wait for the postman to deliver it, and in Seaside it could be a long wait. Luckily, all your neighbors were waiting, too, so you had plenty of company.
