If you're looking for something to do with your family that includes plenty of fresh air, an activity that will keep everyone busy, and a sweet treat, you need to visit Columbia Farm U-Pick this year. Take a look:
Columbia Farms U-Pick got its start in the early 1990s. The family-owned farm on Sauvie Island is open from June through October, and it's the perfect place to visit if you love fresh berries.
Address: 21024 NW Gillihan Road, Portland, OR 97231.
This beautiful farm covers 80 acres, and it's perfectly picturesque. Pack a picnic to bring with you, and plan to spend several hours here. There are picnic tables in the gazebo, and you'll want to spend some time just enjoying the farm after you've picked your berries.
Columbia Farms grows flowers, pumpkins, and more than 15 different kinds of berries. Once the farm opens for the season in June, there's pretty much always something to pick here, until the pumpkins are gone at the end of October.
Strawberries are usually the first to arrive, and the farm offers three different kinds: Hoods, Puget Reliance, and Honeoye. They're all plump and juicy!
Raspberry varieties include Meeker, Tulameen, and Cascade Delights.
There's nothing like a blueberry pie in the summer, and you can choose from Duke, Legacy, Elliot, and Chandler blueberries on the farm.
Marionberries are an Oregon favorite, and Columbia Farms grows them, as well as Boysenberries, Black Diamonds, Triple Crown, and Obsidian blackberries.
Bring your own container and spend some time in the fresh air picking your own berries, or just buy already-picked berries at the farm's market. You'll also want to take home some of their delicious jams. This fun family activity always ends with a sweet treat - a bunch of berries!
Columbia Farms is open during the summer Tuesday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., closed on Monday. During pumpkin season, the farm is open Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Visit the Columbia Farms U Pick website for more information, and make sure to follow the farm's Facebook page to see when the berries are ripe for the picking!
