This little-known, unique island in Oklahoma is actually inhabited by goats that are oftentimes seen grazing at the shoreline. It might be perplexing to see Oklahoma and island in the same sentence, but with all the lakes in the state, there are a few hiding out there that remain under the radar. One such island is known as "Goat Island" in Pettit Bay on Lake Tenkiller. Check it out!
Located on one of the most beautiful lakes in Oklahoma, "Goat Island" is located in the Pettit Bay area of Lake Tenkiller. Check out the map below.
Pettit Bay is located on the western portion of the lake and features a campground, swimming, a beach, and an on-site marina. It's a great spot to enter the lake and get out on to the island. Don't forget to stop and take in the picturesque sights.
"Goat Island" can be accessed by boat, kayak, or canoe. It's not far off the shore, so it's easily accessible.
As you come up to "Goat Island" you'll often times see the goats coming down to greet you. We can't think of a better way to be greeted.
There are spots on the island where you can get close enough to get off your watercraft and get onto the island.
Most of the time you'll find about three goats roaming the island. They even have names...Yin-Yang, Onyx, and Lone Ranger.
Make sure you don't feed the goats anything harmful and pick-up any trash left behind, to ensure the goats stay healthy.
A day trip out on Lake Tenkiller is an activity the whole family will enjoy. Hop on a kayak or boat and check out this unique island in northeastern Oklahoma.
