If you thought trolley rides were obsolete in Oklahoma...we have a surprise for you. Sitting in the quaint town of El Reno is the only rail-based trolley left in Oklahoma. The Heritage Express Trolley will take you on a ride along the streets of downtown El Reno past historical buildings, shopping, murals and much more.
Hop on board this charming trolley for a nostalgic ride around El Reno, Oklahoma:
El Reno is located about 30 miles west of Oklahoma City and is home to the Heritage Express.
Streetcars and tracks first appeared in El Reno in the early 1900s. Pictured below is the Interurban Streetcar in 1915.
In 2001, the Heritage Express Trolley began operation along the tracks in El Reno. Heritage Express is a fully restored 1924 Brill Motor Car.
The trolley seats 48 people and is fully air conditioned and heated. It is also handicap-accessible.
The route takes you on a 1 1/2 mile ride through downtown El Reno. The nostalgic ride takes about 30 minutes.
Visitors on the Heritage Express can ride it into downtown, get off and explore, then hop back on when it makes its way through town again.
You will board the train at the Canadian County Historical Museum, just west of downtown El Reno.
The operators of the trolley will greet you with a smile and help you get on board.
