The town of Tishomingo, Oklahoma has always been a beloved town for Sooner State residents, including country music superstar, Blake Shelton. In fact, Shelton loves it so much that he decided to open a restaurant in the town. But that’s not all this charming town has going for it. It’s actually one of the best places for a day trip in Oklahoma. Tishomingo is located in south-central Oklahoma about 115 miles south of Oklahoma City. The town has just over 3,000 residents and, since there are so many fun things to do in Tishomingo, Oklahoma, it is a charming place to visit.
It's also surrounded by natural beauty, making it the perfect destination to enjoy the great outdoors.
The town has gained national notoriety due to the opening of Blake Shelton's Ole Red Restaurant.
In fact, when the restaurant opened, there was a line as far as the eye could see. People came from all over the country to see what this little town had to offer.
Thousands gathered outdoors to hear a special concert by Shelton on the opening weekend of the restaurant. Don't worry, the town isn't always this crowded (at least not yet!).
Tishomingo is also rich in history and one place you'll want to visit is The Chickasaw National Capitol Building. This historic building was built in 1898 and now serves as a museum open to the public.
Plus, there's Blue River that is a popular fishing spot for trout. The water is so clean and refreshing...check it out even if you don't fish.
And all you shoppers have to visit Junk Stars - a local junk store (or so they say) owned by Blake Shelton's mother. Just look for the pickup truck sticking out from the building just off Main Street.
