Oklahoma is full of small towns that offer charm, quiet spaces, southern hospitality and a slower pace of life. Whether you're looking to move to a more rural area, or just need a little time away, here are 10 towns in Oklahoma where you can go to get some peace and quiet.
1. Perry
The town of Perry is filled with family-owned restaurants, lots of open space and a laid-back lifestyle. Perry is located in Noble County, just 60 miles north of Oklahoma City.
2. Marlow
The small, charming town of Marlow is home to RedBud Park, friendly smiles and quiet places to get away. Marlow is located in Stephens County in the southern portion of the state.
3. Medicine Park
The quaint, cobblestone community of Medicine Park offers stunning views of the Wichita Mountains. Not only are the views incredible but Medicine Creek and Bath Lake offer peaceful places to relax and unwind.
4. Pryor Creek
Located in northeast Oklahoma, Pryor offers a slower pace of life but with the convenience of being able to take a short 35 minute drive to Tulsa. The town is full of commerce, but also close to lakes and streams and places to relax.
5. Jet
Jet is not only home to the Great Salt Plains State Park, but it's also the "Goose Hunting Capital of Oklahoma." Life might be quiet in Jet, but it's a place where you can take a step back and enjoy the finer things in life.
6. Hugo
Known as Circus City, USA, Hugo has been the home of traveling circuses since the early 1900s. It is full of history, small town charm and is home to The Hugo Frisco Depot Museum.
7. Pauls Valley
Pauls Valley might be little, but there is so much to do in this town. From museums to chocolate factories, this charming town is the perfect place to go for a town full of history and character without the crowds.
8. Pawhuska
Another town in Oklahoma that is full of picturesque places to enjoy the great outdoors is Pawhuska. Bluestem Falls and Lake, Tallgrass Prairie Preserve and Osage Nation are just a few places where nature lovers can enjoy the great outdoors in peace and quiet.
9. Tishomingo
Although Tishomingo is home to country music star, Blake Shelton, it is still a small, quiet town full of tranquil places to relax. Favorite outdoor destinations include the beautiful Blue River and the Tishomingo National Wildlife Refuge.
10. Poteau
Poteau offers views of the Ouachita Mountains - which has some of the most beautiful scenery in the state. It boasts "the world's highest hill," and is full of outdoor spaces where nature can calm you.
