Oklahoma is full of natural beauty that continues to amaze us as we discover all its hidden gems. We know beautiful cities exist all over Oklahoma, but we found eight that have the most breathtaking scenery in the state. Take a look at the spectacular views they get to enjoy day in and day out:
1. Talihina
Talihina is the Village between the mountains and is the Gateway to the beautiful Talimena Scenic Drive and the Ouachita National Forest. Several lakes, rivers, and streams, camping facilities, equestrian camps, hiking trails, are in close proximity to Talihina offering various outdoor activities.
2. Medicine Park
Located adjacent to the Wichita Mountain Wildlife Refuge, this cobblestone, resort town is surrounded by breathtaking beauty on all sides. Medicine Park also houses Bath Lake Park which is landscaped with beautiful gardens, large trees, foot bridges, and grassy areas for visitors to lounge around, sunbathe and enjoy the natural beauty.
3. Broken Bow
Nestled in the Southeast corner of Oklahoma, Broken Bow is the gateway city to Broken Bow Lake, Beavers Bend Resort Park, the Mountain Fork and Glover Rivers, and the Ouachita National Forest. The average summer temperature is 80 degrees and they receive over 50 inches of rainfall a year, which means the forests are green and the streams, rivers and lakes are full and clear.
4. Sulphur
From luxurious attractions to abundant nature and wildlife to a historic downtown, the city of Sulphur has plenty for visitors to enjoy. It is also known as the gateway to the Chickasaw National Recreation Area - one of the most beautiful areas in the state.
5. Tahlequah
As the capital of the Cherokee Nation, Tahlequah is rich in Native American history. It was voted one of the Top 100 Best Small Towns in America and is home to Lake Tenkiller and the Illinois River.
6. Pawhuska
Located in Osage County, Pawhuska is the capital of The Osage Nation. It is also the gateway to The Tallgrass Prairie Preserve - the largest protected area of tallgrass prairie on Earth, spanning 39,000 acres. The complete drive is approximately 50 miles, and takes about two hours at a leisurely pace with time for stopping.
7. Eufaula
Eufaula is home to Lake Eufaula, the largest lake contained entirely within the state of Oklahoma because of the Eufaula Dam. The lake covers 105,500 surface acres with 600 miles of shoreline, and is surrounded with lush green foliage that looks spectacular when it turns its colors in the fall.
8. Davis
Davis is the home Turner Falls Park which is the oldest park in Oklahoma. It is located in the Arbuckle Mountains in southern Oklahoma. Turner Falls is one of the state’s tallest waterfalls that drops 77 feet into a refreshing swimming hole. The area is full of wildflowers and breathtaking scenery.
