I love visiting small towns that are full of Christmas spirit, but there aren't very many to choose from in the Sooner State. Sure, lots of them decorate, but I'm talking about a place that REALLY celebrates the holidays. I happened to stumble across an article that named the best Christmas town in every state and just wait until you see the magical place that was picked for Oklahoma. It's full of charm, Christmas traditions, month-long celebrations and holiday lights. Do you think you have a guess where this place is?
Scroll down to find out.
The town of Sulphur in south-central Oklahoma was named the best Christmas town in Oklahoma in 2017 by Cheapism.com.
Opening night for "Christmas in Sulphur" took place on November 25 in the Plaza and the celebration will continue through the month of December.
All of the downtown businesses decorate for this event and the light displays are magical. If you're looking for Christmas spirit, then don't miss a visit to this spirited town.
Sulphur is home to the gorgeous Artesian Hotel - host of a month long celebration called "Classic Christmas" where there's festive activities every weekend.
If you step inside the hotel, the exquisite Christmas decorations adorn the lobby and are a must-see. Check with the hotel for a schedule of the festive activities, like breakfast with Santa, gingerbread workshops and story time with Mrs. Claus.
Starting December 8th until December 23rd, carriage rides through historic downtown will be available from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday nights for visitors to see the light displays in the plaza.
Rides last about 15 minutes and are only $5 per person. It's an experience you don't want to miss!
The town features a "Christmas Lights Show" nightly through the month of November. Colorful trees, stars and light displays come to life as they dance with the music.
You'll also want to head over to the Chickasaw Cultural Center and check out the incredible display of lights at the "Celebration of Lights". It's a free drive-through display featuring thousands of lights and displays.
Visitors to Sulphur are also invited to take their holiday photos in the giant picture frame provided by The Artesian Hotel. Use the hashtag #classicchristmas for all your social media postings to be featured with all the other photos.
