Are you looking to get away for a short day trip but want to make sure the town is worth the drive? Well, look no further because I found the most stunning place to visit in southeast Oklahoma - Broken Bow - home to Beavers Bend & Hochatown State Park, Mountain Fork River and Broken Bow Lake. Broken Bow is a popular destination year-round but in the fall it is picture perfect. With so much to do in the area, I put together a few top suggestions you'll want to check out before you head out on this awe-inspiring trip to this charming town.
The most popular thing to do in the Broken Bow region is to visit Beavers Bend and Hochatown State Park. The beauty that surrounds this area makes it a favorite destination in Oklahoma.
Broken Bow Lake and Mountain Fork River are located within the parks and offer all the outdoor activities to keep you entertained for days. We recommend renting a kayak or paddleboat and enjoy a peaceful ride around the area checking out the fall foliage or try your hand at fishing.
The whole family will love a ride around the lake. Rentals are easily available right on the water.
You can also go horseback riding while in town. There are over a half-million acres of land to explore. Several outfitters are in the area and ready to get you saddled up for an enjoyable ride.
A nice, leisurely stroll in town is always a peaceful activity. The sound of rushing water, thick foliage and fresh air will put a smile on your face.
Autumn is the best time to visit this oasis. Make sure you bring your camera because you'll see something new to capture at every turn.
This day trip is the perfect trip for every age. With so much to see and explore, no one will get bored.
Another fun family activity is taking a train ride around Beavers Bend State Park. The train departs every half hour from Beavers Bend Depot. The replica steam engine train ride will be full of fun memories and photo opportunities.
If your fall visit takes place between November 11-13, 2016, visit The Beavers Bend Folk Festival & Craft Show in Broken Bow. You can explore over 70 vendors featuring turn-of-the-century arts and crafts, food, petting zoo, folk music and much more.
Make sure you take time just to sit and enjoy the beauty of the fall foliage. It is one of the best places in the state to see the bold colors of fall.
The area has so many top-rated restaurants offering inside and patio dining. From fresh pizza to mouthwatering steaks, you can find it all right in town. Be sure to check out Abendigo's Grill & Patio.
While in Beavers Bend State Park, check out The Forest Heritage Center - known as "The Wood Art Capital of Oklahoma." The center is a museum that educates visitors on Oklahoma's forests and houses unique displays and dioramas painted by Smokey Bear artist, Harry Rossoll.
If you want to extend your day trip to a weekend trip, Broken Bow and Hochatown have every type of cabin rental available for a comfortable night stay in one of the most beautiful places in Oklahoma.
Oklahoma is full of beautiful places to visit but I think Broken Bow might be my favorite! Check out more beautiful destinations in Oklahoma here.
