Small towns can have the most delicious, unsuspecting restaurants---you just have to look close enough to find them. The following are just 10 of our favorite small town restaurants in Ohio. (Be sure to check out part 1 of this topic as well for some more amazing small town restaurants.)
1. G & R Tavern (Waldo)
At G & R Tavern in Waldo, you'll find what is arguably the best fried bologna sandwich in Ohio (and quite possibly the world.) It is located at 103 N Marion St., Waldo, OH 43356.
2. Remo’s Hot Dogs (Gallipolis)
For just $4.25 you can get a footlong (complete with a secret family sauce), chips and a drink. This delicious hot dog joint is the perfect stop along a road trip. Remo's Hot Dogs is located at 241 2nd Ave., Gallipolis, OH 45631.
3. Henry’s Restaurant (West Jefferson)
This unsuspecting restaurant off of U.S. Hwy. 40 offers some of the best homemade pies. Henry's Restaurant is located at 62 75 U.S. Hwy. 40, West Jefferson, OH 43162.
4. Spread Eagle Tavern & Inn (Hanoverton)
This historic inn was originally built in 1837 in the Federalist style by masons of the canal boom. Throughout the years, it has been frequented by a handful of U.S. presidents. The Spread Eagle Tavern and Inn is located at 10150 Historic Plymouth St., Hanoverton, OH 44423.
5. Buckeye Express Diner (Bellville)
You don't necessarily have to board an operating train for a locomotive themed dining experience. If you take exit 165 off of Interstate 71, you'll find this iconic not-your-average diner. (Note: Michigan fans must park across the street.) Buckeye Express Diner is located at 810 State Rt. 97 W., Bellville, OH 44813.
6. Amish Door Restaurant (Wilmot)
Set in an oversized Amish style home that has a seating capacity of 450, this restaurant is located in Wilmont. Guests can also choose to have a full family sized Amish style meal prepared instead of individual orders. Amish Door is located at 1210 Winesburg St., Wilmot, OH 44689.
7. The School House Restaurant (Camp Dennison)
This refurbished school house was built in the early 1860s during the Civil War. The Camp Dennison School was in operation from 1864 through 1954, and it is rumored to have been the first two-room, two-story school house in the Midwest. Today, it serves visitors many traditional homemade favorites such as fried chicken, meat loaf and mashed potatoes. 8. Hometown Hotdogs (Millersport)
"Ohio's best kept secret for hot dogs, hamburgers, fresh fries and more" has served up some tasty chili dogs since 1998. Their signature West Virginia Dog with coleslaw is also a big crowd pleaser. Hometown Hotdogs is located at 12031 Lancaster St., Millersport, OH 43046.
9. The Barn Restaurant (Smithville)
This family favorite restaurant is perfect for a fun night out. A refurbished rustic barn, board games and a scenic pond outside give this unique eatery a charming atmosphere. The Barn Restaurant is located at 877 W Main St., Smithville, OH 44677.
10. The Red Brick Tavern (Lafayette)
Ohio's second oldest stagecoach stop serves as "a reminder of the past" and features exceptional American, Italian and seafood cuisine. The Red Brick Tavern is located at 1700 Cumberland St., Lafayette, OH 43140.
